Walker Lake, Nevada (Rural Nevada with No Broadband Internet)
The property manager wanted Broadband Internet, where Dialup might be an option, there is no DSL, UVerse, or Charter / Comcast Internet. Rural Nevada is undeserved by Internet Service Providers. Fiber June be available at a later date, Switch is exploring ways to distribute fiber the last mile. The solution had to allow bandwidth throttling, to limit the access to 10Mbps for the public network, and full bandwidth for the tenants of the apartment complex with lagoon name and password. The public network with free access is to advertise the apartment complex as the only apartment facility at Walker Lake with FREE wireless Internet.
There are three pieces to the solution: Multiconnect to the ISP for Internet Service, where there is no Internet Service Available, firewall protection, and wireless access point to distrubute the signal.
Cisco RV042G Dual Gigabit WAN Router to provide dual WAN Connections (two eCell Ethernet Bridges) for 40Mbps download with 6Mbps upload distributed at 10% for the public network and 90% for the tenant network. The last segment was covered by EnGenius Technologies Long Range 11n 2.4GHz Wireless Outdoor Access Point (ENS202EXT). The ENS202EXT has a range of up to two miles, and our installations have proven the product in the hospitality market. Each segment of the network is served by a seperate access point, one providing 10Mbps shared service as the public network, and the second 1000Mbps from the Cisco RV042G Dual Band Router. The Cisco also provides static DNS addresses from DNS4SPEED.COM. The network is shutdown nightly from two AM to four AM to save bandwidth.
